Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are slated to play at Summerfest, presumably in the Marcus Amphitheater, on Friday, June 25 according to a press release from Petty's publicist.
The catalyst for all summertime alt-music festivals have announced its 2010 lineup ... I'm talking about Coachella in Indio, Cali. This baby brings together the finest in alternative music and electronic artists; many times Coachella has been the place where acts reunite after lengthy hiatuses. Two great bands are coming to Milwaukee in the coming months ... The dreamy, ethereal pair known as Beach House is coming to the Pabst for a $10 show, and electronic party starters Passion Pit will be playing the same night at Turner Hall ... Beach House has three phenomenal albums under their belt, and have played with Grizzly Bear on recent tours. If you enjoy music that lulls you off to sleep Beach House's tunes do just that. Their otherworldly aura is like an overdose of Ambian to the ears.

Apparently his album with Timbaland convinced Chris Cornell to reunite with his Seattle supergroup Soundgarden. The band -which rose to prominence in the 90's along with other grunge pioneers as Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam - will reunite for a summer tour ... Will one of their stops be Summerfest? I am assuming that will be the case, and it will probably be the Big Gig's only signing of an "alternative" band this summer ... I am also guessing that they will headline one of the
