This year is a pretty good year for gigs at Summerfest for me. Not so much the quantity, but the quality. So we have Sunday, June 27th - I'm singing back up for Jon Paris, a wonderful blues guitarist and vocalist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who currently resides in New York City. We will be playing on the M&I Classic Rock Stage at 6:30pm - opening for BB King. I finally get to meet him and Lucille:) That's so exciting! ... Then, we have Chick Singer Night on Monday, June 28th - The Briggs and
The catalyst for all summertime alt-music festivals have announced its 2010 lineup ... I'm talking about Coachella in Indio, Cali. This baby brings together the finest in alternative music and electronic artists; many times Coachella has been the place where acts reunite after lengthy hiatuses. (Examples: The Pixies, Bauhaus, The Stooges ... ) ... This year's headliners are a curious trio, not particularly as earthquaking as past acts. In fact they are sorta dull ... April 16th is Jay-Z. April
I speak for all of us, when I say don't close the forums. ... Reasons not to close the forums ... 1. I don't want to blog my summerfest thoughts, I'd rather see a shrink ... 2. Mmathu ... 3. For many of us, people in our lives don't care to associate summerfest relations in their everyday conversations. We like to. So leave us the *** alone ... 5. Thousands enter the summerfest grounds every year. 10 out of that 1000 care enough about the festival to connect with other attendees. Show some
Two great bands are coming to Milwaukee in the coming months ... The dreamy, ethereal pair known as Beach House is coming to the Pabst for a $10 show, and electronic party starters Passion Pit will be playing the same night at Turner Hall ... Beach House has three phenomenal albums under their belt, and have played with Grizzly Bear on recent tours. If you enjoy music that lulls you off to sleep Beach House's tunes do just that. Their otherworldly aura is like an overdose of Ambian to the ears.
I was unable to access the Summerfest forums from the home page and had to use an old link in my history to get here. Is it just my computer and cookies or has the Summerfest forums actually been closed? Thanks ...
Apparently his album with Timbaland convinced Chris Cornell to reunite with his Seattle supergroup Soundgarden. The band -which rose to prominence in the 90's along with other grunge pioneers as Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam - will reunite for a summer tour ... Will one of their stops be Summerfest? I am assuming that will be the case, and it will probably be the Big Gig's only signing of an "alternative" band this summer ... I am also guessing that they will headline one of the
Multimedia from NYTimes.com: ... The Music They Made ... http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/12/23/magazine/music-they-made-audioss/index.html ... A sound collage featuring a sampling of musicians who died in 2009 ... The biggest shock of these to me was Willy DeVille – I liked his music, saw him at Summerfest about 25 years ago. Who could forget Michael Jackson passing on the opening day of Summerfest this year – the word traveled like wildfire around the grounds that afternoon. And
Check out that last sentence. Smiley racks in $280,000 a year. Not to shabby for running an eleven day circus. I have to assume that the hole in one island is used to pay his salary. In other news Mmathau will now be able to pick up young boys until 2030 as the lease has been extended until then ... Summerfest lease extension advances ... By Tom Held of the Journal Sentinel ... Posted: Dec. 10, 2009 10:58 a.m ... A deal that extends Summerfest's lease for the Henry Maier
As you all are well aware, Tim McGraw has already been booked as a headliner for the Big Gig 2010 ... When I read this in the newspaper several weeks ago I let out an agitated shout and smacked my forehead in disbelief ... We have barely shaken off the bad memories of Bummerfest 2009 (except for mmathu: he still dreams of watching teen boys at the Spoon show) and already next year's version has shown itself to be a trainwreck in the making ... Yet why am I surprised by this booking? If it
