Hello All,   ... I have not checked in for quite some time.  I hope everyone had a good holiday!  Nina, Mason, and I headed to New Orleans to support the Saints in the football playoffs recently. Had plenty of shrimp etouffee and bourbon!  Thanks to  all of you that came to see us play in 2009.  It was a real treat to play live again.  The band is really looking forward to making new music in 2010 ...   ... The catalyst for all summertime alt-music festivals have announced its 2010 lineup ... I'm talking about Coachella in Indio, Cali. This baby brings together the finest in alternative music and electronic artists; many times Coachella has been the place where acts reunite after lengthy hiatuses. I speak for all of us, when I say don't close the forums.  ... Reasons not to close the forums ... 1. I don't want to blog my summerfest thoughts, I'd rather see a shrink ... 2. Mmathu ... 3. Whoa. I just checked out Sade's latest "Solider of Love" on pitchfork.tv, and I have to say: I am inpressed ... I have liked Sade since high school- way back in the 80s. She had some hit albums with some smooth jazz nuggets like "Paradise," "The Sweetest Taboo," "No Ordinary Love," and "Never As Good As The First Time." ... Sade's music is basically the kind of stuff you put on when you are getting busy with your lady. (or in mmathu's case his preschool boys). She is sexy, sultry and superb.

Two great bands are coming to Milwaukee in the coming months ... The dreamy, ethereal pair known as Beach House is coming to the Pabst for a $10 show, and electronic party starters Passion Pit will be playing the same night at Turner Hall ... Beach House has three phenomenal albums under their belt, and have played with Grizzly Bear on recent tours. If you enjoy music that lulls you off to sleep Beach House's tunes do just that. Their otherworldly aura is like an overdose of Ambian to the ears.

2009 will undoubtedly be remembered as the year of celebrity deaths. Some were not surprising, while others shocked us ... 2010 is off to one hell of a start ... Alt rocker Jay Reatard - who recently played Milwaukee - died this week at age 29. He had a batch of critically acclaimed albums ... Personally I didn't care for the guy but just the fact that he died so young -coming off the inexplicable death of actress Brittany Murphy - is shocking and tragic ... In celebrity-dom fragile souls

There is no doubt in my mind that some music critic used the above headline in a review of Vampire Weekend's new album, but I came up with it on my own, damn it ... Okay. Having said that let's get to my opinion of Vampire Weekend's sophomore disc Contra ... A year ago the buzz surrounding this four man band was deafening. Their self titled debut was released to massive critical and commercial accolades, leading to a soldout tour and TV appearances. They also played high profile festivals
