With the Big Gig in full swing, we thought it would be fun to send senior editor Drew Olson into another "shift switch" assignment -- this time as a bartender at Summerfest. After spending 25 years in front of the various bars on the grounds, Olson stepped into a beer stand near the rock stage and poured beers for thirsty patrons. He left with sore legs and hips, a little tip money in his pocket and a new appreciation for the people who pour.
Check out that last sentence. Smiley racks in $280,000 a year. Not to shabby for running an eleven day circus. I have to assume that the hole in one island is used to pay his salary. The annual Frank Mots Kite Festival, now in its 31st year, returns to the lakefront this weekend with two full days of kite-flying.Kite teams and professional fliers will have demonstrations Saturday and Sunday. Among those scheduled to appear are Team Pegasus from Puerto Rico; the six-person Chicago Fire team; and I-Quad Revolution, another six-person team whose members maneuver four-line kites.Yves LaForest of Montreal will be flying two kites that have become familiar features in the sky
